Authors' Ghosts: Seven Poems. Muriel Spark.

Authors' Ghosts: Seven Poems

London: Rees & O'Neill, 2004. Tall quarto, yellow card wraps with printed pastedown label, binding stitched with yellow thread. Printed by letterpress on Vélin Arches paper at the Libanus Press.

Signed limited first edition of this collection of Spark's poetry. This copy is out of series and unnumbered, signed on the colophon by Spark, consistent in format with the thirty numbered copies issued in Colorplan card covers. Collected here are seven of Spark's poems on the subject of writers and writing: “The Empty Space," “The Creative Writing Class," “Created and Abandoned," “Hats," “My Kingdom for a Horse," “Everything Plus the Kitchen Sink," and the title poem, in which Spark imagines the ghosts of dead authors slipping back to revise their books. “How otherwise / Explain the fact that maybe after years / Have passed, the reader / Picks up the book --But was it like that? / I don't remember this . . . Where / Did this ending come from? / I recall quite another." A fine copy.
