Jenny’s Adopted Brothers

New York: Harper & Brothers, (1952). Single volume, measuring 7.25 x 5 inches: 32. Original yellow pictorial boards stamped in black and red, original clipped pictorial dust jacket with five titles listed on rear panel. Lightest soiling to jacket; later price stamp to front flap.

First edition of the sixth book in Esther Averill’s series about shy Jenny Linsky, member of the Greenwich Village cat club. In Jenny’s Adopted Brothers, Jenny introduces two new friends to her owner Captain Tinker, only to struggle with jealousy when they move into her cozy home. “Wait. It isn’t easy to get two cats adopted. We must work out a plan.” Still in print today, Averill’s cat club stories are little marvels of observation, true New York classics. A bright, near-fine copy.
