France: 1933. Single sheet, constructed of two sheets of pre-printed “papier quadrillé” joined together, measuring 18.75 x 9.5 inches. Recto hand-painted in gouache in multiple colors, notes in pencil and ink; verso dated “28/7/33” with production notes in ink. Some soiling to verso.
Original French botanical textile design, dated 1933. The stylized leaves and branches are meticulously plotted out, stich by stitch, on “papier quadrillé” manufactured by Bellavoine, a Paris firm that specialized in papers “pour mise en carte de dessins jacquards.” A lovely survival.
