First edition of this English pocket guide to handwriting, number 684 in the Ladybird series, appealing to children laboring under “inadequate handwriting schemes," and adults who feel that they have “scribbled long enough." The exercises begin with simple shapes and individual letters, progressing through fully joined cursive script. In 1959, author Tom Gourdie was made an M.B.E. (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to calligraphy, in recognition of his efforts to improve the nation's handwriting. A crisp, near-fine copy.
