New York: Simon and Schuster, (1956). Small square quarto, 24 pp. Color printed pictorial paper boards, printed foil spine, color illustrations throughout text. Ownership signature inside the printed “bookplate” on verso of upper board. A few short closed marginal tears, lightest rubbing to boards.
First edition, “A” printing, of this brightly illustrated guide to the solar system for young children: “Future space travelers may make many exciting discoveries. But they will be glad to come home. As far as we know only the earth has the right kind of air, water, and food for people.” The author of the Giant Golden Book of Astronomy, Rose Wyler published dozens of books about science for young readers; illustrator Tibor Gergely received the Caldecott Honor in 1955 for his work on Margaret Wise Brown’s Wheel on the Chimney. A very good copy of a striking book.
