Early printing of this brightly illustrated volume in publisher Desclée de Brouwer's Histoire Naturelle series, first published in 1938. Nine birds are featured: the swallow, nightingale, blue titmouse and garden warbler (as a pair), goldfinch, sparrow, golden oriole, gold-crest, and bullfinch. Each bird receives its own French verse, and is captioned in Latin, French, English and Dutch. The brilliantly colored illustrations are by Russian-born painter Élisabeth Ivanovsky. Text in French. A fine copy, rebound by Celine Lombardi in brightly hand-painted paper boards.
