Black-and-white and color illustrations throughout text. Jacket spine sunned, no slipcase.

First trade edition of Roger Duvoisin’s illustrated version of A Child’s Garden of Verses, published the same year as the deluxe Limited Editions Club issue. Robert Louis Stevenson first published his beloved series of poems in 1885. Highlights include “Bed in Summer,” “My Shadow,” “The Land of Counterpane,” “The Swing,” and “Summer Sun”: “Above the hills, along the blue, / Round the bright air with footing true, / To please the child, to paint the rose, / The gardener of the World, he goes.” Illustrator Roger Duvoisin would go on to win the 1948 Caldecott Medal for his work on Alvin Tresselt's White Snow, Bright Snow; Duvoisin is best remembered for his illustrations for Louise Fatio's Happy Lion series and his own Petunia books. A bright, near-fine copy.
